Each Family will be required to earn 4 points this season to be eligible for a return of the $100 workbond. The jobs are listed below with their point totals per meet. Each volunteer job will have a point value. Depending on the type of job, some might be worth more than others. We wouldn’t be able to successfully run our meets without our parent volunteers.
If your child swims at Championships, all parents will need to help regardless of point totals. This is a huge event and all parents will be needed.
Volunteer Jobs (points)
- Officials
( 1 ) : We always need new officials so that the same few people are not required to work at every meet. If you are currently a YMCA or USA certified official, you will not need additional training for the summer season. You will need to send a copy of your credentials to New Jersey Swim and Dive (instructions will be provided) and have a copy of your credentials available at any meet at which you are officiating. “Summer only” officials must be re-certified every year. If you are certified and available to officiate, please let us know so that we have a list of all available officials.
- Timers ( 1 ) : We typically need 5-6 timers per meet. If you are new to swimming, timing is not a difficult assignment, and you get a front row seat to all the action. Wins my vote as most fun job, but wear lots of sunscreen.
- Runner ( 1 ) : Delivers results from timers to scoring table. No training required. Wear sneakers.
- Scorer ( 1 ) : Records the official time on the scoring sheet and keeps a running total of the score. If you are interested, we will let you shadow an experienced scorer until you feel comfortable.
- Best Times Advocate ( 1 ) : Responsible for reviewing team times at the scoring table and identifying top times or new team records during home meets. This will allow us to commend achievements during our home meets over the loud speaker.
- Ribbons ( 1 ) : Prepare ribbons for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers, heat winners, and participation. No training required.
- Parking Lot Director ( 1 ) : Ensures paved lot and grassy parking area are optimized to fit the greatest number of cars at home meets.
- Concessions ( 1 ) : We will again be running a concession stand at all of our home swim meets. This is our biggest fund raising opportunity. We will need two concession coordinators for the season to coordinate the concession stand for every home meet. There will also be volunteer opportunities to staff the concession stand, and to grill burgers, breakfast sandwiches, etc.
- 50/50 ( 1 ) : Sells 50/50 raffle tickets during home meets
- Meet Breakdown ( 1 ) : After home meets help putting away equipment, supplies, lane lines, etc.
- Team event Coordinator ( 4 ) : This role helps organize some of the swim team events like pasta party, end of year swim party, swim Bingo. This will fulfill the total point requirements for the season.
- Volunteer Coordinator ( 4 ) : Ensuring all volunteer slots are filled for all meets and responsible for keeping track of volunteer points for the season. This role does not require in person attendance at all meets but will need a backup to ensure all volunteers are checked in so points can be recorded.
- Ribbon & Flag maintenance ( 4 ) : Organize all ribbons and putting them away in the correct swimmers file for distribution at the end of year party. Maintain swimmers’ flags with stars after meets. This does not require meet attendance.
